Is Chiropractic covered by extended health insurance?
In most cases, your extended health insurance policy will include coverage for chiropractic. The amount will vary from one policy to the next. You can call your insurance provider directly or speak with your human resources department to determine the details of your coverage. While we can not call your insurance provider on your behalf, we would be happy to assist you by providing a list of the important questions you should ask.
Do I need a referral from my medical doctor to see a chiropractor?
You do not require a note from your medical doctor to see a chiropractor as chiropractors are legislated as primary contact health professionals. Making an appointment is as simple as calling the office. Although rare, it is possible that your extended health insurance provider requires the presentation of a medical doctor's note prior to reimbursing you for care received. To find out if this applies to your insurance policy, you can call your provider and ask.

Once I start going to the chiropractor, do I have to continue forever?
This misconception is a common reason why many do not seek the care of a chiropractor and suffer needlessly with pain. Most patients begin chiropractic care because they have a specific complaint. The doctor will examine the patient and based on the exam findings will make recommendations for treatment. In many cases, the treatment plan will require more frequent visits in the beginning. Once a patient has completed this initial phase, they can decide if they would like to discontinue care or continue on a maintenance program. Most patients choose a maintenance program in order to help prevent the initial complaint from returning. The frequency of visits depends on many factors and may be different for each patient. Similar to recommendations for regular teeth cleaning by dentists, chiropractors generally recommend regular spinal check-ups and adjustments. It is important to remember, however, that your schedule of care is your decision and many patients choose to only make appointments to see the chiropractor when they feel the symptoms returing.
What is that "popping" sound I hear when I get an adjustment?
While the cracking or popping sound during an adjustment is common, it does not occur in every case. The sound is not the bone cracking, but rather, gas escaping from the joint.
